Films are memories.
Lodge them together.

Film Lodge is a place we file our film reviews and memories, and we hope you do too. Every film gets a poster, one line, and a short review for more expansive takes. If a take needs a thousand words to land, it wasn't a take — it was a plot summary wearing a coat.

The artwork matters as much as the writing. It is a visual medium afterall. Each entry is set like a record cover.

Films arrive when they're watched, which is mostly late and rarely in order. We will lodge our house reviews, and we would love it if you lodged yours. Lets file our memories of film together.

Scoring key

  • Experiencing a film doesn't get better than this to me.

  • Excellent. A flaw or two, none of them fatal.

  • Works. Worth the evening, not the argument.

  • Interesting but underwhelming. Something in it is alive.

  • Inert. Nothing on the cover, nothing inside.

  • Half stars

Awarded freely. Most films live in the cracks.

In plain words

What Film Lodge is

Film Lodge is a free film diary and review site. You can log the films you watch and the date you watched them, write a short review with a score out of five, build ranked lists, follow other members, and play three daily film trivia games. It works in any web browser, on phone or desktop, and an account is free.

If you already keep a watch diary on a site like Letterboxd, Film Lodge is an alternative with a different emphasis: reviews are capped at two hundred words, every film is presented like a record cover, and the writing is meant to be short and sharp rather than an essay.

Is it free?
Yes. Creating an account, filing reviews, keeping a diary and building lists all cost nothing, and there are no ads.
What can I do with an account?
File a review for any film, mark films as watched with a date, like reviews and films, build ranked lists, and follow other members so their files reach your home page.
How long is a review?
Two hundred words at most, plus a single one-line take and a score from half a star to five stars.
Where does film data come from?
Posters, cast, directors and synopses come from TMDB, so every film you file is a real film with its own page on the site.
What are the daily games?
Three film trivia rounds each day: guess the film from its plot blurb, from its cast line-up, and from an actor's filmography.
Do I need an account to read?
No. Reviews, film pages, lists and member pages are public and readable by anyone.
