“Universal themes resonate in this quietly masterful biopic”
Nineteen-year-old Anthony Bourdain falls into a Provincetown kitchen and finds something. Dominic Sessa plays him as heavily brooding, troubled, with a raw appetite and unearned awkward swagger - a yearning behind youthful bravado. The themes here are universal. It's a coming off age story set over a summer, where a young man trying to find his place chases a young woman, learns some lessons as a fish out of water in a new place and stumbles onto a path. Anxiety, adventure, romance, bad role models, good role models, male bonding via incessant ribbing. All punctuated by a brilliant score and 70's period soundtrack with a vibe. It will resonate whether you know Bourdain or not. Highly recommend.
